Automobile Regulations

Every student, staff, and faculty member at UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Hospitals who parks an automobile in designated reserved parking at the University is required by the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Transportation and Parking to obtain and display a permit on the automobile when utilizing parking in that parking area. Also, parking permit holders must utilize parking only in specific zones as indicated on their parking permit.

Motor vehicle parking permits may be obtained through normal registration procedures at the Department of Transportation and Parking. Vehicles found parked illegally may be cited by Parking Enforcement. Subsequent violations may result in further citations, immobilization (booting), or towing of the vehicle.

Information on parking registration and alternatives to parking at UNC-Chapel Hill, such as bicycle registration, University of North Carolina Campus Area Ride sharing (UNC-CAR), and use of Chapel Hill Transit is available during regular business hours (weekdays, 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.) at the Department of Transportation and Parking. The department is located in the Security Services Building on Morrison Drive (just off Manning Drive) on south campus or by calling 962-3951.
