DDS Academic Performance Policies

OSCE Failure and Remediation Policy

[* This Policy was composed by the OSCE Committee, reviewed by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and approved by the Department Chairs.]

The OSCE has eight total sections and will be given to the 4th Year DDS class in the Fall semester. Seventy-five percent of a student’s responses to questions in a section must be correct for a student to pass that section.

• Failure on 1 or 2 sections of the OSCE will require that the student meet with the faculty responsible for that section (or sections) of the Exam and take a (new) OSCE Re-Exam of that section (or sections). If the student fails the Section(s) Re-Exam, he or she will be remanded to the APC for appropriate action.

• Failure on 3 or more sections of the OSCE will require the student to meet with the OSCE Committee to review the performance on the entire Exam. The student will at that time be given guidance on how to prepare for the Re-Exam. The student will be required to take the Re-Exam. Failure to appear for the Re-Exam or an overall performance of less than 75% constitutes failure on the Re-Exam. Furthermore, the student is also required to pass on the Re-Exam any sections that he or she failed on the original OSCE. If a student fails the Re-Exam, or fails on the Re-Exam to pass any of the sections not passed on the initial OSCE, he or she will not be able to graduate and recommendations on his/ her future disposition will be determined by the APC.
