TRACK 2: Oral Epidemiology PhD Program |

The mean amount of time from enrollment through graduation for these students has been 4.4 years, with a standard deviation of 1.2 years.
| What classes would I take as part of the program, and how long does it take to complete that coursework? |
Usually the first 2.0 - 2.5 years are spent doing full time coursework to get requirements completed, then the last 1.5-2.0 years are spent doing dissertation work. Course descriptions can be found at the School of Public Health web site. The typical series of courses for the PhD Program in Oral Epidemiology is:
| Fall Year 1: | BIOS 110, EPID 150, EPID 168, EPID 390, HPAA 127, and the oral epidemiology journal club |
| Spring Year 1: | BIOS 145, EPID 268, EPID 303, HPAA 228 |
| Fall Year 2: | BIOS 165, EPID 203, EPID 269, epidemiology elective course, and the oral epidemiology journal club |
| Spring Year 2: | EPID 201, EPID 303, epidemiology elective course, teaching requirement |
| Summer Year 2: | EPID 315 |
Also during Year 2 students begin to formalize dissertation topics and also take the doctoral qualifying examinations.
| Do I need to take the GRE and TOEFL examinations? |
All students who make application to the Graduate School, whether US or international students, must take the GRE test, but only international students need to take the TOEFL exam, as specified by the UNC Graduate School.
