The Department of Orthodontics at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill offers a three-year graduate program leading to a Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Science degree conferred by the Graduate School of the University. The program is approved and accredited by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.

Six residents are selected each fall for the class beginning the following August. Upon completion of all requirements, each student is eligible for examination and certification by the American Board of Orthodontics.

This program can be combined with other educational programs in the social sciences, basic sciences, or allied health professions leading to an additional Master's degree, post-doctoral fellowship, institutional or individual Dentist-Scientist award of PhD degree, with additional time in residence.  PhD Degrees are administered through the Oral Biology Program.
