Submitting Reserve Readings for Use Online

Step 1 - Have your textbook or journal articles scanned in electronically by the Online Syllabus Support Staff at the Office of Academic Affairs. The policies for e-reserves are at: http://www.hsl.unc.edu/ereserves/mattypes.cfm.

Here are some of the key points to remember:

  • If you submit a photocopy of the chapter of a book or an article, the copyright information page must also accompany the material to be scanned.  This includes information on the publisher's name, location and date of publishing, as well as the complete title of the journal and article name or book name and author name.
  • For books, in addition to the copyright information page, you must also submit a copy of the title page to make sure we comply with copyright law.
  • You may only make 25% or less of a book available online.
  • Submit a complete list of all the documents and their citation (either electronic or paper format is acceptable)

Step 2 - In addition to the reserve materials, please print out the following PDF checklist and submit with your materials:

Online Reserve Reading Checklist

Step 3 - The Online Syllabus Support Staff will send the electronic materials to the contact person at the Health Sciences Library.

Step 4 - HSL Reserves staff will contact the publishers to get copyright clearance for the materials and they will put the readings on their server. URL addresses for each reserve reading electronic document will be forwarded to the Online Syllabus Support Staff in Academic Affairs, who will then add the links to the appropriate session pages for you.
