Blood / Body Fluid Exposures

UNC School of Dentistry

To report blood exposure, notify your departmental clinical supervisor. The supervisor will call 966-2555 to obtain a Medical Record Number for the source patient.

Staff and Residents:
call 966-9119
University Employee Health
Report source patient's name, DOB, medical record number and possible HIV risk factors. Make appointment for you post-exposure blood testing and counseling.
Students:
call 966-6561
Campus Health Services
(After 5:00 p.m. call 966-2281)
Call second:
 966-2810 Report exposure and return completed "Blood/Body Fluids Exposure Report" to the Office of
Clinical Affairs.

ALL SOURCE PATIENTS MUST BE TAKEN TO THE UNC HOSPITALS BLOOD DRAWING LAB, 1ST FLOOR, MAIN HOSPITAL AFTER A MEDICAL RECORD NUMBER IS OBTAINED AND EXPOSURE HAS BEEN REPORTED

After 5:00 p.m.

PATIENT MUST BE TAKEN TO THE WOMEN’S AND CHILDREN’S OUTPATIENT CLINIC TO HAVE BLOOD DRAWN

This includes . . .

  • Needle sticks
  • Blood splashed to eyes or mouth
  • Blood and/or bloody body fluids to an open wound
