Section XV: Infection Control in the Learning Resource Center
While taking intraoral photographs, examination gloves will be worn when retracting the buccal mucosa or performing any procedure involving contact with saliva or a risk of exposure to human pathogens.
Hands must be washed when gloves are removed or changed.
Used cheek retractors must be dropped into a paper bag with a biohazard label and sent to Central Sterilization for cleaning and sterilization.
Contaminated gloves must not be allowed to touch the camera or surroundings.
Gowns must be worn in operatories.
Gowns must be placed in laundry hampers in clinical areas when soiled or at least once a day.
Biohazard labels will be placed on waste containers which receive waste contaminated with saliva or blood.
