Spend the day with Dr. George Zarb as he presents updates on temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and dental implants. TMD encompass a group of musculoskeletal conditions, often overlapping, that involve the temporomandibular joint(s), the masticatory musculature, or both. They are typically characterized by pain, altered jaw movement and joint sounds. The precise etiology (or etiologies) of TMD is not always clear, and treatment strategies demand an eclectic and resilient approach. The risk of chronicity for these disorders must also be recognized, and the dentist must be prepared to manage patients with TMD in a manner that precludes dogmatic convictions regarding cause-and-effect relationships.
