Allied Dental Education Programs
Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH)
The Dental Hygiene Program at The University of North Carolina is designed to educate and prepare dental hygienists for careers in a diverse and changing health care environment. Requirements for the baccalaureate degree include courses in the basic, dental and dental hygiene sciences and general education courses specified by the General College at the University. Students with a special interest in Public Health Dentistry, Geriatric Dentistry, Hospital Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry or Periodontics have the opportunity to select one of these areas for concentrated study in the senior year. The course of study also includes a unique practicum or research experience in the chosen area.
The Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Post-secondary Accreditation and the United States Department of Education, accredits the program in dental hygiene.
