Mission
Dental laboratories and dental laboratory technicians have an integral role in provision of dental care. The School of Dentistry supports the inclusion of "in house" dental laboratories and dental technician assisted clinical procedures as an essential portion of the curriculum in order to prepare dental students to best serve the people of North Carolina.
The objectives of the dental laboratory division are:
- to improve dental students with appropriate experience in relating to dental laboratories in a simulated practice environment,
- to provide high quality dental restorations to compliment and enhance the dental students clinical experience,
- to demonstrate to students the limitations of dental laboratories in the provision of dental care,
- to have a defined role in the teaching of restorative dentistry,
- to provide appropriate teaching materials as needed by the faculty for undergraduate and graduate instruction,
- to provide appropriate support for participants in the Dental Faculty Practice, and
- to have a visible presence within the School of Dentistry in order to best achieve the preceding objectives.
