Mission
The Office of Computing and Information Systems (OCIS) has
responsibility for the design, administration, and support of the School of
Dentistry's computing systems. The OCIS programmers are responsible for developing
and supporting computer
database applications for administration and for clinic management. Administrative applications include
a departmental accounting system (MIS)
for budgeting, requisitions, and financial management and a Personnel
database. The programmers have designed and implemented an
Electronic Patient Record system (EPR) to manage patient records and
administer all of the School's clinics.
The OCIS systems support group manages an
extensive array of networked systems consisting of the following components:
eight main production Windows 2003 servers and several test and development
servers, a Unix server, numerous networked printers, and roughly 1200 client
computers including 400 student laptop computers. Servers in the Windows
domain are used to host the School's web site, web-based electronic
curriculum, SQL Server databases, Exchange messaging services, and other
file and print services.
