2006-2007 Parking Applications

SUBJECT: REGISTER FOR PARKING 2006 - 2007

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY LOTS OF NEW INFORMATION !

Please read this information very carefully before you fill out your application. If you did not receive an application and wish to apply for a parking permit, please contact me as soon as possible.

Enclosed you will find a packet of information regarding parking applications for the year 2006 - 2007. The application must be completed in pencil. Please note: do not use Social Security numbers, you must use your PIN# located on your UNC One Card.

The traffic office has issued three important notes for parking applications:

  1. Applications will not be accepted without registered vehicle information.
  2. Applications will not be accepted without a signature.
  3. A selection for pre-tax preferences must be indicated on the application for both permits and bus passes.

An Emergency Ride Back Program will be available to all Park and Ride users that need quick transportation to their vehicle in case of a family emergency. The Point to Point service will provide you with an immediate ride back to your car at any of the Park and Ride lots 24 hours a day. Just call Point to Point at 962-7867 (2-PTOP).

The Park and Ride lots are: Carrboro Plaza (West), Friday Center/Highway 54 (East), Southern Village (South), Eubanks Road (North), P Lot (Airport Road).

All bus lots are free but you must complete a Commuter Alternatives Program application.

Any employee wishing to apply for a vanpool permit must complete a Vanpool Application. Vanpool permits are designated for use by individuals using passenger vans leased from agencies such as Triangle Transit Authority for the sole purpose of transporting individuals to and from work. Vanpool permits will not be issued to individuals using their own personal vehicles. Vanpool permits are now free of charge.

Post-Doc Allocation: Assignments will be made according to Date-On-Duty. Post-Docs are not eligible for the pre-tax benefit. If post-docs do not receive their first choice, they will automatically be placed on the waiting list for that zone. Any post-doc not eligible for payroll deduction must turn payment in with completed application.

You must return the parking applications and waiting list to your Department Secretary. Department Secretaries must return the applications to Support Services no later than Monday, May 20 2006 in order to process the information and meet our deadline with the traffic office. You must make arrangements if you will be out of town to have your completed application submitted on time. Failure to return completed forms on time may result in loss of a permit despite your total years of service.

APPLICATION FOR PARKING 8/15/06 - 8/14/07

  1. Return the completed application, ranking preference printout, and any supporting documentation (described below) to your department secretary. If you will no longer be at the Dental School after August 15, 2006, please contact me at 966-3068.

  2. Parking Permit Ranking: Attached is your current ranked permit preference. You should review it carefully to make sure it is accurate. Make any changes directly on the sheet.

    Each permit selection lists ranks employees by longevity independent of other lists. It is to your best interest to rank each permit accurately. If you do not rank all of the permits available, and we are unable to assign you one that you ranked, you will not receive a permit. Therefore, it is important that you indicate your preference on all permits offered.

  3. Waiting List: Employees will automatically be placed on the waiting list (s) for any permits which were ranked higher than the one issued. Each employee will move up the list as turnovers occur.

  4. Multizone permit holders only: The printout refers to primary zone only. Attach a letter signed by your Department Chair identifying the secondary zone desired and a letter of justification.

  5. Motorcycle permit(s): Motorcycle permits are an additional $36.00 when obtained with an auto permit. Please attach a handwritten note to your application if you wish to obtain a motorcycle permit. Permits for only motorcycles are $157.00 - $286.00, based on salary.

  6. Bicycles and Mopeds: Bicycles and Mopeds are required to be registered or subject to impoundment. It is free of charge. Please obtain applications from Support Services.

  7. Employees that commence work after 12:00 P.M. each day: Employees who commence work after 12:00 P.M. are eligible for a less expensive permit which allows individuals to park in any non-gated lot. Please enclose a letter signed by your Department Chair confirming your working hours if you are eligible for this type of permit.

  8. Employees that depart work prior to 12:30 P.M. each day: Employees that depart work prior to 12:30 P.M. are eligible for a less expensive permit. Please inform me of this fact with your application. Please enclose a letter signed by your Department Chair confirming your working hours if you are eligible for this type of permit.
