School Welcomes President of Iceland

Asgeir Sigurdsson, assistant professor in the department of endodontics was honored to be selected as the official UNC emissary for Ólafur R. Grímsson, President of Iceland. Sigurdson was first contacted during a recent visit to his homeland and was pleased to be asked to serve in this capacity. President Grímsson is among the dignitaries visiting North Carolina as part of the Special Olympics. He spoke at the opening ceremonies on Saturday, June 26.
On Sunday Grímsson hosted a reception at the Carolina Club for all of the Icelandic athletes, their families, coaches and members of the Icelandic community residing in the triangle. Sigurdsson arranged the reception that was attended by more than 100 people, all with bright, smiling faces. Athlete, Ólafur Thormar (pictured above) was thrilled to meet

Dean John Stamm and his wife, Carol, were among the UNC dignitaries in attendance at the reception. The School of Dentistry has welcomed six Icelandic dentists into Masters programs in pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics and endodontics.
