Pediatric Dentistry Provides Exams for Belarussian Children
Fifteen Belarussian children visiting the Triangle learned more about their dental care needs thanks to the department of pediatric dentistry. Pediatric dentistry faculty, Mike Roberts, Bill Vann, Jim Bawden, Lorne Koroluk, Tom McIver and pediatric dental educator Nancy St. Onge completed comprehensive oral exams and radiographs when appropriate. McIver also completed a restoration for one of the children who had a symptomatic tooth. Each child examined at the school received a mini dental chart and a treatment plan. Some of the children will receive care locally before returning home.
The children were visiting the Triangle as part of the American Belarussian Relief Organization. Chapel Hill resident Rebecca Coyne coordinated the visit to the school, including an interpreter.
