Accident Takes Matsukawa's Life

The School of Dentistry faculty, staff and students are immensely saddened by the death of Fusayoshi "Yoshi" Matsukawa, a post-doctoral fellow in the school's research center. He was injured Thursday morning in a traffic accident on Manning Drive in front of the dental school. He died Saturday. Before coming to UNC in January of this year, he was on the faculty of Osaka Dental University in Japan.

Yoshi's passing has weighed heavily on the hearts of his friends and colleagues at the School of Dentistry. Matsukawa was known as an affable and dedicated professional who worked long days to accomplish his goals during his short stay at the School of Dentistry. He planned to return to Japan in March.

Matsukawa is survived by his wife, Yumi, and their infant daughter, Kanna. A traditional funeral service will be held in Japan. A memorial service for his family and friends will be held Friday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the John B. Reeves All Faith Chapel at UNC Hospitals.
