In Memoriam-Dr. Kenneth Adisman
The School of Dentistry is saddened by the loss of Kenneth Adisman, professor emeritus of New York University College of Dentistry and adjunct professor in the department of prosthodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry. He died Sunday March 5 at a hospital in Manhattan. He was 80 years old. Adisman helped develop and publicize the specialty of maxillofacial prosthodontics, the branch of dentistry that restores lost craniofacial structures due to trauma, cancer or developmental defects. His discoveries improved quality of life for many people.
Adisman retired to Durham, N.C. 1990, and continued his work in dental education at the School of Dentistry. In that capacity, he touched the lives of both predoctoral and graduate residents in prosthodontics with his keen awareness of clinical prosthodontics . He worked closely in the maxillofacial prosthodontics clinic with Glenn Minsley, associate professor and division director.
"Dr. Adisman was highly respected in the UNC dental community, and worked diligently to improve the national reputation of the UNC Department of Prosthodontics. He was the consummate 'Southern Gentleman'" said David Felton, chair of prosthodontics.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to "Friends of Joan" at the Dental Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. at the UNC School of Dentistry, CB 7450, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7450.
A memorial service will be held at NYU College of Dentistry, 345 East 24th Street on Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at 5 p.m. The School of Dentistry is planning a memorial for later in the spring.
