Three Alums Receive Awards at NCDS

Three UNC School of Dentistry graduates were honored at the recent NCDS meeting at Myrtle Beach. UNC Dental Alumni President Randy Fussell '90 received the Commendation Award. The award is given to a member who has been in practice 10 years or less or under 40 years of age. Fussell received the award for demonstrated leadership qualities and service to the NCDS. Nona Breeland '87 past-president of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. received the Meritorious Achievement Award for significant achievement in dentistry. Nominees for this award qualify in the areas of leadership, academics, research, health care delivery or professionalism. Kenneth Owen '63 received the Distinguished Scroll Award, the society's most prestigious award. The award is given to someone nearing the completion of a career and who has demonstrated outstanding service, leadership and dedication to the profession of dentistry and to the improvement of the health of the people of North Carolina.
