Bawden Receives Award

James Bawden, professor emeritus in pediatric dentistry, received the McKay Award for Excellence in Preventive Dentistry at the ADA meeting in Chicago, Oct. 14, 2000. The award is given every two years by the ADA Foundation. Bawden received the award for his extensive research on fluoride. His most recent project was Smart Smiles, a pilot program that provides fluoride varnishing for underprivileged children in 11 mountain counties of North Carolina. Bawden retired from UNC June 30, 2000.
