Best of Dentistry
The Dental Foundation sponsored its annual Best of Dentistry Dinner on November 18, 2000. Two hundred alumni and friends attended the event. The newly installed Chancellor James Moeser greeted the School of Dentistry community and in his keynote address shared his vision for the future of UNC.
The dinner specifically celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Dental Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. The Dental Foundation began modestly in November 1950 with a fundraising goal of $100,000 to support research, student loans, scholarships, and other projects not covered by state funding. The campaign was successful, and the support from local dentists and friends was enthusiastic and overwhelming. Thanks to the continued support of our generous alumni and friends, excellence in dental education continues to grow stronger through the Dental Foundation. Today the Foundation awards thousands of dollars annually in pre-doctoral scholarships, graduate fellowships and faculty professorships and awards. Tarrson Hall was built with DFNC funds raised during the Campaign for Excellence, and Foundation funds continually support renovations, special programs, departments, and innovative research.
