Dr. John E. Chandler III Lecture
Larry Wintersteen, PhD, MS, an internationally renowned speaker, will present the first Dr. John E. Chandler III at the School of Dentistry from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3. Chandler and his wife, Martha, established the lecture series with a contribution to the Dental Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. in 1999.
Chandler is a dental practitioner in Greensboro and a 1967 graduate of the UNC School of Dentistry. He is also the president of Chandler Foods, a family-run food distribution company established by his father in 1955. In addition to his work, he is a painter and has created several historical dioramas for museum exhibits.
Wintersteen's lecture, entitled "Pardon Me, Your Face is Showing," will address common problems encountered among dental practitioners, hygienists and assistants when trying to communicate properly with their patients and co-workers. He will discuss verbal communication, non-verbal communication, listening, and how they relate to patient education, team building and practice image.
Wintersteen, an American Dental Association-approved speaker, has worked with dental professionals in all categories for nearly 25 years and has been a part of the educational program at the University of Colorado Dental School at Denver. He has a bachelor's degree in English / Communication, a master's dgree in Interpersonal Communication and Organizational Psychology, and doctorate studies in clinical counseling and organizational management In 1974, he founded a consulting firm, Wintersteen & Associates, and has since built an international reputation as a leading consultant This lecture is open to all students, faculty and staff, and THREE HOURS OF CONTINUIING EDUCATION CREDIT for STUDENTS. Thanks to the Chandlers' generous gift to the School, there is NO REGISTRATION FEE. Any interested persons should sign up in Room 186 of the Dental Office Building by January 31 to attend.
