26th Annual Spurgeon Dental Society Table Clinics

The 26th Annual Spurgeon Dental Society Table Clinic Day, under the direction of Jeremy Fry, DDS Class of 2003 and Eric Kerr, DDS Class of 2004, was held, Friday, April 20, 2001. Fifteen table clinics were presented by dental assisting, dental hygiene, predoctoral dental and advanced dental education students.

Judges for the event were Ms. Debra Cough, department of dental ecology, Ms. Laura Jansen, department of dental ecology, Dr. Glenn Minsley, department of prosthodontics, Dr. Tim Wright, department of pediatric dentistry and Dr. Greg Essick, department of prosthodontics.

Winners of the awards were: Dental Hygiene Award, sponsored by the UNC XI chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha ($100): "Help Me Find the Way to Aphthous Ulcer Relief" - Katie Jordan, Cassie Greene, Mandee Simpson, Tiffany Cooper

Dental Assisting Award, sponsored by the Durham-Orange County Dental Assistant's Society ($150): "Chew on This" - Sarah Lyons, Melissa Spire, Erin Taylor Allied Dental Award, sponsored by the Spurgeon Dental Society ($150): "Licensing Issues for Dental Hygienists" - Jenni Sweet, Gigi Oberlin, Susan Mondok, Amy Childs Advanced Dental Education Award, sponsored by the Spurgeon Dental Society ($150): "Navigating the O.R. in the 21st Century: New Insights from a Review of 300 Cases" - Dr. Kristina D. Coffield Clinical Sciences Award, sponsored by the UNC Dental Alumni Association ($150): "Efficacy and Morphological Variances in Tray-less Versus Conventional Whitening Systems" - Jennifer Burke-Hill Best Science Award, sponsored by the Upsilon Upsilon Chapter of OKU ($250): Development of a Subjective Instrument of Evaluating Masticatory Impairment" - Amy Joslin North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry Award, sponsored by the NCAGD ($150): "Evaluation of Conventional Bur and Air Abrasion Preparation on Microleakage of Opaque Light-cured Sealants" - Dr. Julie Blackwood International College of Dentistry Award, sponsored by the NCICD ($150): "Teaching Patient Self-Control" - Amy Cronk, S.T.
