Congressman Norwood is School of Dentistry Commencement Speaker
The Honorable Charles Whitlow Norwood, a dentist and congressman from the Tenth Congressional District of Georgia, will be the School of Dentistry's commencement speaker May 20. Born in Valdosta, Ga., he received his bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University in 1964 and a DDS degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in 1967. He was elected to Georgia's Tenth District seat in November 1994 and has held his seat through three reelections. As congressman, he has served on the Commerce Committee and the Committee on Education and the Workforce. His Commerce Committee subcommittee assignments include Health and the Environment, as well as, Energy and Power. He serves as vice-chair of the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee and is a member of the Rural Health Care Caucus, the Army Caucus and the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. He has also served on the Speaker's Task Force on Tritium Production and the Speaker's Workgroup on Health Care Reform.
The school's commencement ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m.on May 20, 2001 at Carmichael and a reception to honor the graduates will follow at the School of Dentistry from 2:15 to 3:30p.m.
