Eight North Carolinians Named Board of Governors Dental Scholars

University of North Carolina President Molly Corbett Broad has announced the names of eight North Carolinians who have received full scholarships to the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Dentistry for the 2001-02 academic year. The Board of Governors Dental Scholarships, established in 1978 by the governing body of the 16-campus University, provide full tuition and mandatory fees, plus an annual stipend of $5,000. The scholarships, based on financial need and potential for service to the people of North Carolina, may be renewed for three years.

The recipients, all beginning their first year at the School of Dentistry this fall, are:

Ashley Michelle Collins, a graduate of Lenior-Rhyne College. She is the daughter of Susan Collins of Lincolnton.

Kenisha LaShae Grant, a graduate of Norfolk State University. She is the daughter of Kenneth L. Grant Jr. of Statesville and Shirley F. Grant of Charlotte.

Harvey Lane Harris Jr., a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. He is the son of Harvey L. and Terry G. Harris of Pinehurst.

Melissa Harue Hoff, a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. She is the daughter of Shizuko Hoff of Chocowinity. Rhonda Louise Kearney, a graduate of UNC-Greensboro. She is the daughter of Paul D. and Dorothy M. Kearney of Warrenton.

Carmen Lianne Leary, graduate of Spelman College. She is the daughter of Oliver W. and Donna P. Leary of Durham.

Bich-Duong Nguyen, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill. She is the daughter of Thieu and Nguyen Thi Nguyen of Charlotte.

Gabrielle Victoria Williams, a graduate of Hampton University. She is the daughter of Angela Williams of Raleigh and the granddaughter of the Reverend and Mrs. Lemuel Bryant of Greensboro.
