2003 White Coat Ceremony
Under the leadership of the Office of Academic Affairs and the support
of the UNC Dental Foundation, the UNC School of Dentistry celebrated its
Third Annual White Coat Ceremony for the DDS Class of 2006 on Friday,
March 28, 2003 at 5 pm in the Clinic Auditorium in the UNC Hospitals.
Eighty class members received white coats embossed with their name, symbolizing
their transition from preclinical courses into the delivery of clinical
care. The coat also reminds the students of being allowed the privilege
of providing health care to those in need.
After welcoming remarks from Dean John Stamm, Ms. Jenny Mann, President
of the Spurgeon Dental Society gave the student address. Dr. Ted Roberson,
DDS Class of 1968 and former Director of Admissions and Student Services,
as well as, former Chair of the Department of Operative Dentistry delivered
the Faculty address. After students donned their white coats with the
assistance of Mr. Tom Luten, Director of Student Services, Dr. Ken May,
Associate Dean for Administration and Planning and Dr. Douglas Solow,
Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Mr. Jonathan Wingate, President of
the DDS Class of 2006, led the students and attending faculty and dentists
in reciting The Dentist's Pledge. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a
reception was held in the lobby of Tarrson Hall. Congratulations to the
students in the DDS Class of 2006.
