SCHOOL CELEBRATES
50TH REUNION
OF FIRST CLASS
Chapel Hill--On Friday, April 16th, more than
150 alumni and friends of the UNC School of Dentistry gathered at the Dental
Foundation of North Carolina's annual "Best of Dentistry Dinner" to
celebrate the 50th reunion of the first DDS graduating class.
Fourteen of the fifteen surviving members of
the Class of '54 (shown above) were in attendance.
2004 Class member, John Sweeney, joined Dean
John Stamm in toasting the Class and recognizing the extraordinary example they
set for the many students who have followed in their footsteps:
"Surely, as we stand to move our tassels on
graduation day, we will be standing on the shoulders of giants. Thank you
for paving a path of such distinction for us to walk on."
The Class of '54 also enjoyed a private dinner
for classmates and their guests on Saturday, April 17th, at the Weathervane in
Chapel Hill. To top off the golden reunion celebrations, the Class has
been invited to return to Chapel Hill to walk in the commencement ceremonies of
the 50th graduating class on Sunday, May 9th.
