Departments & Groups

The Dental Faculty Practice consists of 12 departments and groups. The departments in the DFP are academic departments in the School of Dentistry. The groups in the DFP are affiliated with academic departments in the School of Dentistry. Please click on the name of the department/group below to link to their homepage.

Departments

Provides treatment services aimed at the prevention and treatment of dental discomfort that include diseases of the nerve and surrounding structures. Treatment procedures usually include root canal treatment and endodontic surgery. Faculty also offer post endodontic bleaching procedures and provides acute treatment and aftercare for dental traumatic injuries.

Provide services in general dental care concentrating primarily in the practice of conservative restorative dentistry. Faculty also provide services in esthetic (cosmetic) dentistry, including procedures such as tooth-colored restorations, bleaching, porcelain veneers and other aspects of esthetic bonding.

Provides a broad scope of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services including: trauma, pathology (disease), craniofacial, reconstruction, surgery for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (nighttime breathing difficulties), maxillofacial cosmetic surgery, dental implants, and treatment of pain involving the temporomandibular joint (the jaw joint) commonly known as TMJ, and facial pain.

Provides treatment to correct irregularities of the teeth and jaws and to improve the facial appearance. Comprehensive orthodontic services are available for children and adults, including surgical orthodontics.

Provides preventative and dental care for children from infancy through adolescence. Services include current preventive measures and sealants, restoration of primary and young permanent teeth, management of hard and soft tissue pathology (diseases) and traumatic injuries. Space maintainers and minor tooth movement appliances are provided when indicated.

Provides services that include the prevention and treatment of diseases of the gums and supporting tissues of the teeth; includes treatment of cosmetic problems such as gum recession and overgrowth; surgical placement of dental implants.

Provides services that include complete dentures and overdentures, removable partial dentures, precision attachment partial dentures, implant restorations, crowns, and fixed partial dentures (bridges). Faculty also provide analysis and treatment of problems in biting and appliances for sleep apnea (nighttime breathing difficulty). Several faculty provide maxillofacial appliances such as replacements for missing noses, ears and other facial parts.

Groups

Provides comprehensive general oral health services for persons with:

• Cleft lip, cleft palate and other craniofacial conditions;
• Chronic health problems requiring hospital-based dental care;
• Older adults with special oral health care needs;
• Oral manifestations or problems related to systemic or psychological health problems.

Provides permanent tooth replacement services.

Provides comprehensive dental services to diagnose, treat and prevent diseases of the teeth and gums. Faculty create treatment plans to map-out each of their patient's dental care needs. A few of the treatment services faculty can provide include: tooth-colored restorations, tooth whitening (bleaching), crowns, fixed partial dentures (bridges), athletic mouth guards, and bite guards for occlusal (bite) problems. The Group also has an active hygiene program providing hygiene (tooth cleaning) services for patients.

Provides histopathological diagnostic and consultative services for patients with oral lesions.

Provides services in the radiographic investigation of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial region including: sinuses, temporomandibular (jaw) joints, and related structures and the imaging of dental implant sites. Faculty accomplish this through the making and interpreting of radiographs (x-rays), tomograms (special x-rays taken as cross-sections) or CT scans (computer assisted x-ray images), offering consulting services and second opinions through interpretation of radiographs referred from other practitioners.

Provides services in the management of chronic orofacial pain and other sensory disorders including: temporomandibular (jaw) disorders (TMD), chronic post-traumatic pain, and maxillofacial nerve injuries.
