FAQ

Who will I receive my dental care from at the Dental Faculty Practice?

All Dental Faculty Practice patients receive dental care from dentists who are full-time faculty members of the UNC-CH School of Dentistry. The School of Dentistry also has student clinics where patients receive dental care exclusively from undergraduate and graduate students who are supervised by faculty. The student clinics are not part of the Dental Faculty Practice. Patients who receive treatment in the student clinics will not receive care simultaneously at DFP except under very specific, authorized circumstances.

How do I become a patient at the DFP?

To find out how to become a patient at the Dental Faculty Practice, click on the "New Patient" button on the left menu or click HERE.

Can I get specialized dental care at the Dental Faculty Practice?

The Dental Faculty Practice is known for giving comprehensive care to its patients. In addition to providing general dentistry care, the DFP has 12 departments and groups. The DFP and its specialty practitioners are known throughout North Carolina and internationally for excellent treatment and care for their patients. If you are referred to the DFP by a family member, friend, or physician for specialty dental care, you will be assessed before receiving treatment in any of our specialty clinics.

Where will I be seen?

The Dental Faculty Practice is located on the second floor of Tarrson Hall. When you get off the elevator, turn right, and enter the reception area through glass doors. After checking-in at the reception desk, a staff member will direct you to the actual location of your appointment.

What do I do if I need emergency dental care?

If you need emergency care during normal clinic hours and you are a Dental Faculty Practice patient, call 919-966-2115.

After hours, all dental emergencies are seen at UNC Hospitals' emergency room.
