Welcome to the Student Clinics
Care Delivery
Care is delivered by approximately 400 students who are enrolled in the doctorate in dental surgery program (D.D.S.) and allied dental education programs (dental hygiene students and dental assisting).
Supervision
These aspiring dental professionals are attended and assisted by over 400 full and part-time faculty and staff.
Patient Pool
Care is provided to adults and children throughout North Carolina and neighboring states.
Treatment Areas
Dental services are provided in all areas of dental care including fillings, crowns and bridges, complete and partial dentures, implants, gum treatment, root canals, and extractions. Preventive care is also provided.
Education and Clinic Care
As a part of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the School of Dentistry is an educational facility. Patients accepted for treatment provide practical clinical experiences for students and receive high-quality care at reduced fees relative to those found in private practice.
Comprehensive Care Approach
Admitted patients are provided comprehensive treatment plans which will address all of their dental needs.
Treatment Period
Treatment can be rendered within several months in some cases, but may take up to three years for more complex problems. Treatment for patients having unusually severe or complicated dental needs may not be appropriate for treatment within the Student Dental Clinics.
Clinic Sessions
Because of the educational nature of dental care provided in the School, patients should plan to spend more time to have their treatment needs met. In order to manage treatment in a timely fashion, patients are asked to be available for at least one three-hour dental session each week.
Patient Well Being
Utmost care is taken to ensure that patient concerns and limitations are given every consideration possible.
