Community-Based Research Inflammatory Conditions

The CCID also contains a Community-Based Research Program that serves to create linkages to communities in order to build research partnerships that facilitate community-based research projects consistent with the CCID's theme. The Community Program serves to:

• Develop Community Advisory Boards that undertake outreach activities associated with CCID projects.

• Maintain relationships between the CCID, the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and the State and County Health Departments to assure that research projects are well received and community-sensitive.

• Provide research consultation and assistance on the design and conduct of community-based interventions, dissemination, and research studies.

• Provide specific methodological consultation and assistance on qualitative research methods, questionnaire development, focus group utilization and management, and qualitative data analysis.

• Assure that community input is used in selecting research foci, conducting research and disseminating products of research.

• Guide the selection of research subjects and the engagement of communities in community-level studies.

• Assure that research studies are conducted in an ethical manner and utilize effective and community-responsive informed consent procedures.

• Study community perceptions of scientific research, ethical issues and research outcomes.
