Current Research

Inflammation is the normally protective but often destructive response of an individual to infection, injury, stress, allergens, or even to one's own body tissue. The concept behind the Comprehensive Center for Inflammatory Disorders is that all inflammatory responses have common mechanisms of action, and that by identifying those mechanisms we can better design therapies or treatments for chronic inflammatory conditions. The CCID conducts basic, clinical, epidemiological, and community-based research on chronic inflammatory responses and conditions, including Periodontal Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Diabetes, viral diseases including Oral Herpes and HIV, Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke, and Preterm Low Birth Weight deliveries.
