Information
Established in 1999,
the Comprehensive Center for Inflammatory Disorders (CCID) is one of six
national Comprehensive Oral Health Research Centers of Discovery created
by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research to improve
oral health. The CCID is a part of the University of North Carolina School
of Dentistry, and focuses its attention to the link between oral inflammatory
disorders such as periodontal disease and their effect on cardiovascular
disease, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and/or delivery of pre-term
low birth weight children. The CCID faculty, through the General and Oral
Health Center (GO Health Center) at the School of Dentistry, delivers
patient care and develops new therapies for Periodontal Disease, Cardiovascular
Disease, Diabetes, and at risk pregnant women, and provides increased
education and health services to professionals and the public of the link
between oral and medical inflammatory disorders.
