PROPOSAL FOR DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS

(Adopted by the Spurgeon Dental Society, Fall 2002)

The Spurgeon Dental Society proposes that:

  1. Upon first violation of the dress code, the student's name will be submitted to the respective patient care coordinator or to director of the dental assisting/hygiene program, and a warning letter will be issued.
  2. If a second violation occurs, an exception will be granted and clinic grades affected accordingly.
  3. If a third violation occurs, the student will not be allowed in clinic and the appointment will be rescheduled. The student will be able to see the patient if they meet the dress code standard by half past the hour of the appointment. In this case, the student will not be allowed to run over clinic time, and the instructor will set the appropriate stopping point or a change in the procedure to accommodate the time limit. (i.e. - If the student had planned a DO on #3, they might only do the prep and place IRM for that appointment. It will only be step 50 for that day.) This will be held at the instructor's discretion.
