Meeting was called to order at 5:15pm. President Danielle Tart began the meeting by welcoming everyone back and introductions.
- Fall Picnic: President Danielle Tart thanked everyone whom was involved with the Fall Picnic festivities.
- Constitution: Voted on the amended version of the constitution. The vote passed on the amended constitution.
- Office Space: Spurgeon has an office near the student lounge. Any organization that would like to pick a space on a shelf can, it is first come first serve. Keys were distributed to organizations last semester. See Danielle if concerning keys if your organization did not receive one.
- Dress Code: Proposal will be presented in regards to the dress code. First time violation you receive a warning, 2nd violation: note sent to Patient Care Coordinator or Program Director, 3rd violation: will be unable to see patien.
- Budgets: Some budgets have been submitted. Please revise budgets and turn them in.
- ADEA Proposal: Nick Gardner proposed to have a course that promoted professional responsibility and giving back to the school. The course would cover various aspects to foster the professional responsibility of dental students. The course would be set up for first years to learn about the history of the school, role of specialist, dental educators roles, and how the school receives their financial support. The second years would learn about opportunities of research, various organizations, how to become involved. The third years would have a round table discussion with second years about their experiences, Dental Foundation information, Public Health aspect, etc. The fourth years would have discussed their experiences of dental school, etc. This would be 2-hour course once a semester and the Dental Foundation offered to pay for lunches. Purpose: Increase loyalty to the school. Discussion occurred about including Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting or having someone speak with the Directors of both programs to see if they would like to incorporate something similar. Also discussion included regards to attendance, grades or CE. The vote passed for the proposal.
- Computer Proposal: A general proposal concerning the computer lab, computers, printers, etc. is being formulated and will be presented by Danielle.
- BCBS Health Fair: September 20 and 27, 2002. Needed a few individuals to monitor the booth. It was decided that it was short notice and we would consider this for next year.
- Vendor Day: October 11, 2002 from 3-8pm in the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel. Class Reps please speak with your class and encourage each individual to attend. CE can be earned. If you have 6 vendors sign your card you can earn 1.5 CE hours. We have 15 vendors thus far and expect 15 more. Free reception from 5-7pm and a Cash Bar. Business Attire. We already have $6000 profit and for each additional vendor will be $750.
- CE Brochures: There are 3 brochures describing possible CE programs for any class or organization that is interested in sponsoring one. (Proctor and Gamble and Glass Ionomer)
- Presidents: Mr. Luten requested that there be a time set up for the Presidents of each class and organization meet once a month. Either during breakfast or lunch.
The meeting was adjourned at 6pm.
