Meeting called to order at 5:15

 

I.                   Announcements

 

a.   Handout policy/electronic syllabus: no problems.

 

b.   Organizations:

Annual SNDA Banquet . Contact “Tiki” to purchase tickets @ $20.00 a piece.  Semiformal for seniors.

 

c.   Social on Friday from 5-8

 

d.   DPSF received 1500.00, divided equally – applied to Spurgeon Banquet. An email to be sent to collect a list of organizations that do service to the community.

 

e.       Book Drive: Health Science Library. Textbooks are needed in Jamaica/Malali. A request was made for a delegation of Spurgeon money  for shipping costs of 500.00. If shipping costs are under 500.00, then would use remaining money for the purchase of books.

Discussion: Need to verify the legitimacy of the organization. Jamaica is the priority site. Would like to include plaque with shipment. Books to be donated by the School of Dentistry. Decision tabled till next meeting. May need to contact the Student Organization Fund - Contact John Curtis. Have also asked the NC Dent Foundation to contribute.

 

f.    Can Spurgeon assist with the “Special Smiles Organization/Track and Field”. Need assistance with OHI instruction/screening/mouthguards/sealants.

 

g.   Dental School Renovations: Renovations as planned. Closing 311 and adding the one card swipe to the school for 24 hr access. Elevator to be completed towards the beginning of May.

 

h.   Class Presidents to set up meeting for a presentation of renovations.

 

 

 

II.                Old Business

 

a.   Vendor Day Funds: Proposal to distribute money. All money to be held by Spurgeon. 25% to be distributed to Academic Affairs. It was voted in.

 

Presentation: If money is needed, a form should be filled out prior to next Spurgeon meeting. Amount given may be different from amount requested. Each organization may request up to 1000.00.. The organizations must have attendance for 9 out of the last 10 meetings to get money. If the meetings are not attended, then you may not receive money. You may then petition for money but may still be turned down. Classes will be included under Spurgeon Vendor Day – DH and DA also to be included. This will be rewritten and voted on at the next meeting. Summer meetings to be excluded from the attendance requirement.

 

III.             New Business


a.   Vendor Day Committees:

 

1. Set-up Committees: Need various organizations to compile list of vendors/send out flyers (SRG responsible for last year)/letter written/vendors to be called. Flier to be completed by DH class of 2005.

            SNDA will call vendors.  AAWD will compile vendor list.  SRG will

write the letter to the vendors.

Deadlines: Vendor Day Oct 7th at Friday Center.
