Welcome

Welcome to the ENNEAD website! ENNEAD is a student organization that encourages student involvement in community service activities. Our goal is to equip students with the skills and passion necessary to become future community leaders and volunteers, because community service is something we believe should extend beyond dental school and into our careers.

ENNEAD was founded in 2003 and our faculty advisor is Dr. Eugene Sandler. Our name comes from an Egyptian word meaning “group of nine.” Nine student leaders, or board members, are responsible for taking requests from the community, designing projects to meet the needs outlined in those requests, and then organizing a group of student volunteers to carry out those projects. We have almost 200 DDS, DH, DA, and undergraduate pre-dental students on our volunteer listserv.

ENNEAD coordinates many different types of activities including:

  • dental screenings and fluoride varnish application at daycares and community centers
  • mouthguard fabrication for local school athletes
  • providing OHI throughout the community
  • providing information about tobacco use and oral cancer prevention
  • education about the proper management of traumatic dental injuries
  • participation at free clinics through the NC Missions of Mercy organization
  • promotion of the field of dentistry at career fairs
